When this entrepreneur attended Dan Peña’s Hardcore Seminar, his company was generating approximately $20 million in EBITDA. Despite running a successful business, he admits he was thinking far too small.
Just months after returning from the seminar, everything changed.
By May, he had already completed two acquisitions, tripling forward-looking EBITDA from $20 million to $60 million and setting an aggressive target of $150 million in EBITDA. Revenue projections increased from $280 million to $450 million, while a company that had once faced the threat of bankruptcy was transformed into a thriving enterprise creating hundreds of millions of dollars in value.
Yet the most significant change was not financial.
Prior to Hardcore, he was content with the idea of eventually selling his company and walking away with $200 million. After spending time with Dan and Sally Peña, that goal became a billion-dollar vision. Today, he believes his company is already worth more than $1 billion and is positioned to sell for several billion dollars in the future.
The entrepreneur credits much of this transformation to a fundamental shift in leadership. He realized that effective leaders do not seek approval. They make difficult decisions, focus on what benefits the business long-term, and accept that being liked is often incompatible with achieving extraordinary results. This mindset shift enabled him to operate at a level he previously thought impossible.
Since attending Hardcore, he has completed acquisitions valued at tens of millions of dollars, including a $45 million manufacturing acquisition and several other strategic transactions. More importantly, he now approaches every opportunity with greater confidence, higher standards, and a vastly expanded view of what is possible.
Perhaps his most powerful takeaway is that Hardcore did not simply teach him how to grow a company. It expanded his realm of reality. Goals that once seemed unattainable are now expected outcomes. The entrepreneur who once aimed for a comfortable exit is now pursuing billion-dollar outcomes and believes he is only getting started.
As he puts it, every time he returns to Hardcore, he comes back a different man—with bigger goals, greater capability, and a stronger determination to achieve results that most people would consider impossible.
