The Origin Story

The Trillion Dollar Man

Daniel S. Peña Sr. was born on August 10, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, and later grew up in East Los Angeles, California. His upbringing in the barrio shaped his early toughness, discipline, and uncompromising style.

After a turbulent youth, Dan entered the military and graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served as a Military Police Officer, Intelligence Officer, and Security Officer at NATO Headquarters during the late 1960s.

He later finished his four-year degree in only two and a half years, moved into finance and business, and became one of the most forceful voices in high-performance business coaching.

Raised in East Los Angeles, Dan learned toughness early. His father Manuel, a WWII and Korean War veteran, CIA operative, and RFK assassination investigator, instilled discipline through hard lessons.

Dan entered the U.S. Army voluntarily, graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School, and served in military police, intelligence, and security roles. He also earned athletic recognition including the Bronze Shoe Award.

Dan became Chairman and Founder of The Guthrie Group and previously founded Great Western Resources Inc., growing the company from an $820 investment into a public company valued at approximately $450 million.

In 1984, Dan purchased Guthrie Castle in Angus, Scotland, restored it, developed the estate, and later made it the private home of his intensive QLA Castle Seminars.

Before GWRI, Dan was involved with JPK Industries, Bear Stearns, Kennedy Industries, investment banking, real estate, and entertainment-related ventures. He has negotiated transactions with multinationals, major accounting firms, international banks, law firms, and foreign governments.

He has also transacted business with both the Church and the Bank of England, while overseeing charitable and business interests across the United States, Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe.

Guthrie Castle is a 15th-century estate in Angus, Scotland, set within 156 acres including a loch, a historic walled garden, and a private golf course. It is the setting for Dan's exclusive QLA Castle Seminar experience.
